Braided, white, RAPID resorbable RPGLA (Polyglactin 910) suture.
The needle is 3/8 reverse cut. The thread is white. The suture retains approx. 50% of its initial strength after 5 days. After 10 - 14 days, the tensile strength is largely gone.
Fully resorbed after 42 days.
An absorbable RPGLA suture is a type of suture that gradually dissolves or breaks down in the body over time. RPGLA stands for "Retarded Polyglycol Acid-Lactic Acid". This refers to the materials used to make the suture thread.
The resorbable RPGLA suture is usually made from a combination of poly glycolic acid and lactic acid. These materials are biocompatible and degradable in the body. The suture thread is designed to maintain its strength and integrity long enough for the wound or incision to heal, and then gradually dissolve and be metabolized by the body's enzymes.
Advantages of resorbable RPGLA sutures include:
1. As this type of suture gradually dissolves, there is usually no need to remove the sutures manually. This eliminates the need to undergo separate suture removal procedures, which may be more convenient for the patient.
2. Less tissue trauma and irritation: Absorbable sutures are usually smoother and softer compared to non-absorbable sutures. This can reduce the risk of tissue trauma and irritation, which contributes to a better healing process.
3. Superior cosmetic result: Because there is no need to remove sutures, absorbable sutures usually leave fewer marks or scars on the surface of the skin. This can result in a more aesthetically pleasing cosmetic result.
