A Summer Holiday – Just a Little Different ☀️🐾

I opened my clinic just over a month before the summer holiday season really began. So it felt completely natural that this summer would look a little different from usual.

I didn’t actually feel like taking three or four consecutive weeks off. After all, I had only just started – and I loved it. ❤️

A Summer in My Own Clinic

Becoming self-employed and finally having my own clinic has been an amazing experience. I now have my own surroundings, the freedom to do things my way and the opportunity to help animals in need.

Instead of closing the clinic for several weeks, I decided to take time off throughout the summer while remaining available whenever I was needed.

That resulted in a summer with a little bit of everything.

Among other things, I have treated dogs with hot spots, cats with abscesses and puppies that had been stung by bees – along with all the other minor and more serious issues that can arise during a summer when animals spend more time outdoors. 🐶🐱

When Work and Family Life Come Together

My own children have also been part of life at the clinic whenever possible.

Fortunately, pet owners usually find it quite charming when a little girl stands nearby handing out treats to their dog while I carry out the examination.

It is actually one of the things I appreciate most about the way my working life looks right now.

Although I am self-employed, I am also a mother. I love that these two parts of my life can sometimes come together. ❤️

New Experiences Ahead

The summer holidays are now officially over, and autumn has arrived. I still feel the same joy and excitement I felt when I first opened the doors to my clinic.

I am looking forward to my first autumn as a self-employed veterinarian – and there is plenty to come.

I will be putting new equipment into use, taking on new tasks and attending conferences. Among other things, I will be participating in a panel discussion about veterinary practice as the workplace of the future.

There are also several new projects ahead, giving me the opportunity to share even more knowledge about our animals, their health and everything that comes with life alongside our pets.

My Clinic, My Way of Doing Things

I may not have had a traditional summer holiday this year.

Instead, I have had a summer that truly allowed me to realise that this is mine:

My clinic.
My working life.
My way of doing things.

I am still incredibly happy that I found the courage to take the leap. 🐾

Now, I’m looking forward to autumn. 🍂

If my first months as a self-employed veterinarian have taught me anything, it is that I genuinely look forward to going to work.

And that is a pretty amazing feeling. ❤️
